The Nassau County Police Department said Yance Folk, of Queens, was arrested in North Lawrence at 9:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

NCPD said officers had responded to a report of a larceny at Burlington Coat Factory, located at 345 Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence.

While the officers were taking a report for the larceny, Folk walked past them with two duffle bags filled with merchandise from the store, police said.

NCPD said Folk made no attempt to pay for the merchandise, passing all points of purchase.

Authorities said officers then approached Folk, and he ran into the parking lot and did not comply with the officers' commands.

When officers caught up to Folk, he punched a police officer in the face and tried to punch and kick other officers, NCPD said.

Police then used a TASER device and were able to place Folk into custody, NCPD reported.

NCPD said an officer suffered an injury to his face and finger and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said Folk is charged with the following:

  • Second-degree assault
  • Petit larceny
  • Resisting arrest

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, Nov. 4, NCPD said.
